Since 2022, the flagship hotel residence has blended Matteo Thun’s timeless design with the Julius Meinl legacy, creating a new standard of modern European luxury in the Czech capital.

In a city defined by Gothic spires and Art Nouveau grandeur, hotel The Julius Prague represents a confident reinterpretation of modern European luxury. Opened in 2022 on Senovážné náměstí, just a short stroll from Wenceslas Square and the Old Town, the property has quickly established itself as a flagship for a new category, luxury hotel residences. Neither a conventional hotel nor a standard apartment building, it offers a seamless blend of home-like freedom, refined design, and thoughtful services.

Luxury combined with sustainability

The Julius is the newest chapter in the long history of Julius Meinl, a family name that has shaped European lifestyle since 1862. What began with Julius Meinl I’s first grocery store in Vienna grew into a trusted brand associated with quality and refinement. For six generations, the family has followed a guiding ethos: “How may I serve you?”, now reimagined for the 21st-century traveller. With hotel The Julius, that legacy has been transformed into a modern expression of European luxury living.

The interiors of the Prague flagship were designed by Matteo Thun & Partners; the Milanese studio celebrated for its human-centred approach. Inspired by the autumnal palette of Czech artist Alphonse Mucha – deep ambers, soft ochres, natural greens – the result is a residence of quiet sophistication. As the designers describe it, the apartments provide ‘a haven of peace and privacy alongside social spaces that instil a feeling of belonging’.

This philosophy defines the 168 residences, from elegant Superior Rooms to spacious Studios and Suites – some with private terraces overlooking the city. Each features oak floors, bespoke furniture, and refined bathrooms. Fully fitted kitchens with Miele and SMEG appliances, designer glassware, and Villeroy & Boch tableware allow guests to prepare meals with ease and style, while those who prefer dining out can enjoy the hotel’s Brasserie, where seasonal cuisine is served in a relaxed yet sophisticated setting.

Public spaces continue this narrative of understated elegance: coworking areas and meeting rooms for business and creative guests, and a fitness centre equipped with Technogym. Sustainability is integral. The Julius Prague incorporates energy-efficient systems, water-saving technology, responsible waste management, and locally sourced products. On the rooftop, lavender plants and beehives form a small urban ecosystem. The honey harvested there is served at breakfast.

Residence for families and business clients

Behind the project is Julius Meinl Living, a family-owned company responsible for every stage – from identifying and acquiring unique properties to transforming them into The Julius hotels and running their day-to-day operations. Private investors who wish to be part of the group’s future growth can do so through The Julius Fund – a qualified investment fund designed for this purpose.

Hotel The Julius Prague is much more than a place to stay. It combines short-stay luxury accommodation with the comforts of long-term residence. Families appreciate interconnected suites; business travellers rely on workspaces and connectivity; leisure visitors immerse themselves in the city knowing they return to a residence that feels private and personal. “Our residences respond to changing traveller needs – longer stays, greater flexibility, and smart services,” notes Martin Švehla, Head of Hospitality at Julius Meinl Living.

The choice of Prague as the pilot project was deliberate. The city combines world-renowned culture with growing demand for high-quality long-stay residences. Since opening, hotel The Julius Prague has demonstrated the strength of its concept: strong occupancy, international recognition, and a reputation for comfort and design. The next step is hotel The Julius Bucharest, due to open in 2027, further extending the brand’s vision into another European capital.

Hotel The Julius Prague has already established itself as a benchmark of modern European luxury. It is where Mucha’s spirit meets Milanese design, where travellers of all kinds find both privacy and belonging, and where every detail – from oak floors to rooftop honey – is curated for a contemporary lifestyle.

It is not simply a hotel, nor just a residence. It is a destination in its own right – a place to live beautifully in the heart of Prague, and a standard-bearer for a new chapter of European luxury living.
