Modern lighting systems already deserve innovation and expansion in the form of control and monitoring. The development of electronics, IoT and Smart City technologies is gaining its place on the market and continues moving forward.
We therefore asked Mr. Lubomír Kuča, the Managing Director of Nikatron, s. r. o., how this year has been in this field and what new developments and plans we can expect in 2026.
What did the year 2025 mean for Nikatron and the Savee solution?
This year was very important for us. Using a sports metaphor, I dare say that in the field of lighting control and our flagship product – the comprehensive lighting control system Savee (www.savee.energy/en/) – we have moved into the ‘first league’. Through intensive development, we prepared a unique solution. It represents a significant step forward both in hardware components and in the successful innovation of the entire software platform. The system can now operate within an internal network, remotely via permanent VPN connection, or in the cloud – all while maintaining an option to run without monthly fees if internet connectivity does not require it. Together with our partners, we now provide service packages including extended warranty. This gives customers confidence in the management of their lighting infrastructure. We can thus guarantee that the hardware and software we develop entirely in the Czech Republic can be of top quality and can be relied on in the long term.
What new functionalities does the Savee lighting control system offer?
At the beginning of the year, we completed and launched a redesigned, highly robust wireless control system. The entire solution, including light sensors, motion sensors and similar components, was finalized. We subsequently added control units for installation into electrical switchboards (wired DIN-rail control) for operating both smart luminaires with digital DALI communication and older types of luminaires that can only be switched on and off. Thanks to this, we can now address all types of applications – for example, wired switching for office spaces and wireless control for outdoor parking areas or entire cities. The system is now a fully hybrid ‘full-featured’ solution. We have added the ability to integrate with building management systems via Modbus API or HTTP. We can also add a lighting control and monitoring module into any energy monitoring or facility management system. This autumn, we added a service module for system maintenance and reporting, which will be especially appreciated by municipal lighting managers and facility managers. The system detects various types of faults, tracks electrical consumption and monitors other important parameters.
Which projects or results are you most proud of?
We are most proud of finding partners who trust us and believe in the stability of our system and its well-thought-out development. They are able to offer customers a complete solution: not only replacing luminaires, but also providing sophisticated control, ensuring energy savings, and delivering regular monitoring or service – all with fast return on investment. We successfully delivered and commissioned several projects where we now control not ‘just’ dozens or hundreds of luminaires, but thousands of lighting points at once — for large shopping centres, industrial companies, as well as cities and municipalities. Lighting control pays off.
How is interest in smart solutions developing?
Interest in smart solutions is growing. What matters is that managers of technical infrastructure, facility managers, and mayors sit down with financial managers and confirm that investment in a lighting control system pays for itself quickly – not only through energy savings but also by reducing the labour needed for operation. It also brings efficient automation and a modern approach to managing premises, cities and municipalities, aligned with comprehensive trends in energy monitoring and management.
What are your main goals for 2026, and where can people meet you?
Our main goals for 2026 include adding functionalities that our partners and customers need for system installation and maintenance. Our development capacity is already fully booked for the entire year. And where can you meet us? It’s very simple. You can visit us at our offices and production facility in Brno. We will guide you through and show you how the Savee lighting system works – everything is installed here, and the initial testing of the entire solution takes place on site.
You can also see us at the world’s largest lighting fair, Light & Building 2026, taking place from 8th to 13th March in Frankfurt am Main. Additionally, we attend various industry events and conferences.
